Herbert Park
PRIVATE RESIDENCE
Originally the coach house to the rear of the main residence on Clyde Road, this project consisted of transforming this architecturally interesting mews house to accommodate the best attributes of modern city living.
A south west facing courtyard garden is provided to the rear onto which the informal living spaces and a single bedroom discharge. A large first floor living room, served by a glass stairs, overlooks Herbert Park with the master bedroom and a third bedroom located to the rear overlooking the courtyard. Despite the restrictions of the site extents, a very substantial entertainment basement is provided under the courtyard illuminated from above with natural light by ground level structural glazing and containing a cinema room, bar, sauna and steam room. The building is richly detailed using a contemporary palette of materials that sensitively integrate with the period details of the original coach house.
